What is hypnobirthing?
Hypnobirthing is a programme of preparation for an empowering birth. It is based on the teachings of Grantly Dick-Read, a British Doctor who was a pioneer in natural birth and founder of the NCT. The programme enables the release of fear and negativity - to allow the body to do what it has been perfectly designed to do. Hypnobirthing empowers both the mother and the birthing partner, as well as having a positive effect on the baby. This provides the best foundation for the baby; for the rest of its life. The programme contains elements of theory and practice, which are outlined below.
The theory is based on logic and looks at:How a woman's body is designed to give birth
The importance of the mind and how it can work well with the body
How a woman can prepare her body and baby for birth
The part the environment plays
The medical side of birth / things to be aware of
Further research that you can do in your own time
Hypnosis to prepare the mind
Couples are encouraged to practice all these elements regularly throughout the pregnancy and during birth itself.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply a state of deep relaxation. During this relaxed state, the conscious mind is suppressed and the subconscious is open to positive suggestions for birth. You are not asleep during hypnosis and are therefore still in control. The hypnosis part of the hypnobirthing programme helps to prepare the mind for birth. Any negative thoughts can be replaced with positive ones. Positive suggestions also help the mind to work in harmony with the body. Finally, the practice of hypnosis on a regular basis, will help to keep you relaxed throughout pregnancy. It will also have a positive effect on you and your baby, every single day.
Hypnobirthing is completely natural and safe. The actual hypnosis part of it is used as a tool for relaxation and positivity. It should not be confused with 'stage hypnosis', which is primarily used for entertainment purposes. When attending the Butterfly Hypnobirthing course, you will not be made to do anything embarrassing or say anything against your will.
